You Say Reimagined Into Mariachi
At Alma de Mexico Music, we are putting our own twist on Lauren Daigle’s song, You Say. This very successful Christian hit was originally released back in 2018. It debuted at No. 33 on the Billboard Christian Songs Chart and made the jump to No. 1 in only one week’s time. The song remained there for 113 weeks, breaking the record for the longest running song in the Chart’s history. Now, Alma de Mexico Music will be releasing it’s Mariachi version of this song.
Day 1
To start off this project, we began by tracking the armonia (mariachi rhythm section). Mario “Marabunta” Hernandez recorded the guitarron, while our director Tony Moreno recorded the guitar and vihuela. Behind the computer, we had Jorge Vazquez as our head engineer. While this version of the song has a simple 4 chord progression throughout the song (D, F#m, Bm, G), this set of musicians added their own creativity and flair to make an arrangement that preserves the essence of the original song, yet has a nice Mariachi sound.
The Studio
The state of the art studio in Pasadena City College has opened their doors for us to use equipment of the highest standards. We were able to use Neumann’s U87 and KM 184 microphones throughout this first session. Jorge was strategic in choosing these specific microphones for the armonia section, as they would be able to produce the best sounding results.
